ELKINS, W. Va. – Davis & Elkins head triathlon coach
Chris Hammer was selected as the 2019 USA Triathlon NCAA DII Coach of the Year following the National Championships in Arizona earlier this month.
Hammer has turned the Senators into a nationally prominent program in just their second season of varsity competition. Hammer helped guide the Senators to a stellar season, which included a victory in the East Region Qualifier and a second-place showing at the 2019 National Championship race in Tempe.
Working with a young roster laden with underclassmen, Hammer continues to push the D&E program into the upper echelon at any level.
Natalia Hidalgo Martinez impressed all season long, taking first among DII competitors and third overall in both the East Region Qualifier and National Championships.
Davis & Elkins hosted its first home event in program history during the 2019 campaign, competing in the Senator Splash-N-Dash back on September 21 as part of Homecoming Weekend.
Hammer also returned to the world stage as a competitor, earning a bronze medal at the International Triathlon Unit (ITU) Paratriathlon World Championships held August 29-September 1 in Lausanne, Switzerland.
D&E returns for the 2020 triathlon season next fall.
