Turnovers Doom Women’s Basketball in Loss at Clarion

CLARION, Pa. – Davis & Elkins was unable to solve an aggressive full-court press from Clarion, turning the ball over 35 times in a 90-65 road defeat on Wednesday at the newly remodeled Tippin Gymnasium.

D&E (0-4) was paced by Jamiyah Johnson, who converted 10-of-16 field goal attempts from the floor for 20 points. Johnson also grabbed 16 rebounds for her second double-double of the season. Jessica Eadsforth-Yates added 14 points in 23 minutes, while Sydney Nestor had a nice all-around effort for the Senators with 10 points and eight rebounds.

Clarion (1-3) converted 50% of its field goal attempts and had five players in double figures. The Golden Eagles fired in 32 bench points and converted 34 points off turnovers. Celeste Ryman buried four three-pointers and posted a game-high 19 points in 33 minutes off the bench. Yndiah Bobo had 13 points and three rebounds, while Emily Hegedus (13), Ke'Airah Massiah (13) and Jada Smith (12) also chipped in on the Golden Eagles balanced offensive attack on Wednesday.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Eadsforth-Yates and Courtney Roth made it an 11-point game on two separate occasions in the third quarter before the Golden Eagles turned to their full court pressure to push their lead to as many as 28 in the frame.
  • Johnson continued to battle in the final quarter, recording four of the Senators nine points in the frame as the Golden Eagles maintained their comfortable lead.
