Women’s Soccer Downed Following Late Goal at Fairmont State

FAIRMONT, W. Va. – Fairmont State cashed in with a late goal on Wednesday night, handing Davis & Elkins a tough 1-0 loss in Mountain East conference (MEC) play at Duvall-Rosier Field.

Mackenzie Gillispie broke a scoreless tie in the 88th minute after slotting one in from just inside the goalie box. The Falcons converted the set piece chance as Angelina Kaylor found Gillispie for the lone marker of the game.

There was not much offense to speak of in the first half for the visitors, as Davis & Elkins (5-3-1, 4-2-0 MEC) mustered just two shots in the opening 45 minutes compared to nine shots for Fairmont State (6-3-1, 5-1-1 MEC).

Asheli Freed and Angelina Horan were the only two players with shots on goal in the match, while freshman goalkeeper Katie Clarke made four stops in net. Lourdes Moreno subbed in late and had the Senators final chance that sailed high in the 89th minute.
