Women’s Soccer Plays to Scoreless Draw Against Urbana on Sunday

ELKINS, W. Va. – Davis & Elkins launched a season-high 32 shots as a team and freshman goalie Sierra Curtis made 11 stops in a 0-0 home draw against Urbana on Sunday afternoon in Mountain East Conference (MEC) play.

The Senators peppered Urbana goalkeeper Hazel Sanz with 16 shots on target, including five in the first half, but could not break through. D&E posted several quality scoring looks, but Sanz and the Blue Knights defense did not break.

Nariana Nealy cracked a shot with less than ten seconds remaining in the first overtime period, but the ball was punched just over the goal by Sanz. Asheli Freed picked up the offensive intensity as the game progressed, firing three shots in the first overtime session and two more in the second overtime. The duo of Nealy and Freed combined for 17 shots in the match with 11 shots on goal.

Roxanne McFarlin and Angelina Horan each had a pair of scoring chances and McFarlin was just on the verge of converting several rebound opportunities in the scoreless affair.

Curtis recorded her second clean sheet of the 2019 season with a career-high 11 saves. It was also her first double-digit save performance of the season, as the Senators have allowed just one goal over the past five matchups.
