KEY SEQUENCE
  • While Davis & Elkins managed to get through the first two sets without much of a challenge, the Pioneers increased their level of play in the third set. This newfound energy carried into the fourth set, where Mya Mintschenko delivered a kill after a Senator timeout to deliver the match point for Davis & Elkins.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Kills from Mintschenko and Raleighanne Weaver, in addition to several Pioneer attack errors, helped the Senators to an 8-4 lead in the opening set. Lillie Mueller increased that advantage to 16-10 with a kill and Solei Daniels added a kill of her own for a 19-12 lead. The Senators recorded five of the final seven points, with two kills coming from Kaitlyn LaCour, to take the first set by a 25-21 margin.
  • Glenville opened the second set with a 5-1 advantage, but the Senators responded with seven straight points later in the set for a 13-9 lead. Kylianne Philip dropped in two service aces near the end of the run to put the Senators back in front at 10-9 and 11-9. Another scoring run, this time six straight points for Davis & Elkins, was highlighted by consecutive kills from Essence West and a service ace by Cynthia Arango. Brittany Portley ended the frame with a kill down the middle as D&E took a 2-0 lead in the match.
  • Glenville rolled to an early lead in the third set, and despite a kill from West making it 8-5, the hosts maintained a comfortable third set lead for a 25-10 victory.
  • The teams traded points in the early portions of the fourth set before Davis & Elkins reeled off four consecutive points off kills from West and Brittany Portley and a service ace from Sarah Warren for an 8-4 lead. Mintchenko pushed the D&E cushion to 14-10 with a spike and an ace from Warren tied the set at 17. A 4-1 surge made it 24-20 in favor of the Senators, but the Pioneers answered back to trim the deficit to 24-23. D&E took a timeout in search of set point, and Mintschenko cashed in with a kill for the 2-23 set win.
