GAMEDAY MEDIA CENTER
KEY SEQUENCE
  • Davis & Elkins used some aggressive offensive play to earn a corner opportunity and the senior tandem of Asheli Freed and Samantha Cozzolino made it count. Freed struck a looping corner to the back of the box, where Cozzolino rose up to head the ball past Frostburg keeper Stephanie Vigezzi for the only goal of the afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The game got off to a rolling start for the Senators as they had three shots on goal early on. The Senators found pay dirt in the seventeenth minute as Sam Cozzolino headed the ball in from the back of the six for a goal.
  • Frostburg tested goalie Katie Clarke with back-to-back chances at 35:34 and 36:39. Angelina Horan raced free for an opportunity and the final scoring chance for either side in the first half.
  • Freed had a pair of scoring chances denied to open the second half, but the Bobcats responded with the next seven shot attempts, including a great look from Brooke Shehade that soared over the crossbar at 60:02.
  • Lourdes Moreno and Nariana Nealy fired shots wide before Clarke made a save on Audra Curtin at 79:36. Jesse Dunagan had the last two attempts of the game, but had one attempt blocked and fired the final one wide as the senators closed out the game.

GAME NOTES
  • While normally holding things down on the defensive end, Cozzolino charged in on the corner for her first career goal. She picked up her first career point with an assist against Charleston (W. Va.) on September 19.
  • Davis & Elkins got balanced offensive contributions from throughout the lineup. Rose, Nealy and Freed all had four shots each in the match, while three of Freed's shots were saved.
  • D&E has now pushed its winning streak to three games with all the conference victories coming via shutout.
  • Clarke made five saves in net for the Senators, including several athletic stops on chances from the slot.

UP NEXT
  • Davis & Elkins heads to Fairmont State for a conference road match on Wednesday, October 9 at 7:00 PM.
