CHARLESTON, W. Va. – The Senators surrendered a goal in each half on a soggy Wednesday afternoon in a 2-0 loss to Charleston (W. Va) during Mountain East Conference (MEC) play at the Welch Athletic Complex.
Shortly after falling behind 2-0,
Asheli Freed had a penalty kick attempt denied by Kaylee Hensley in the second half as Davis & Elkins (6-6-2, 5-5-1 MEC) tried to battle back.
Katie Clarke recorded several key saves despite the final tally, including a diving stop along the right post in the 56th minute on Keira Hill.
Charleston (8-7-1, 6-5-1 MEC) capped a free-flowing first half with pressure in the box near the end of the opening frame and took advantage with an own goal for a 1-0 lead. The Golden Eagles doubled that lead with a penalty kick tally by Madison Hansen in the second half.
Lourdes Moreno had a team-high three shots in a game with relatively equal possession time for each side. Freed led the squad with a pair of shots on goal in the loss.

- Freed's penalty kick opportunity came less than a minute after Charleston made it 2-0 with a penalty kick goal of its won.

- Davis & Elkins recorded a 1-0 win against Charleston (W. Va.) at Nuttall Field the middle of September. Freed posted her third goal of the year off a set piece from Samantha Cozzolino in the win.
