Senators Cruise to Second Sweep of Salem (W. Va.)

SALEM, W. Va. - Hitting the road for is final non conference matchup of the 2019 campaign, the Davis & Elkins volleyball team picked up a convincing 3-0 (25-8, 25-14, 25-9) victory against Salem (W. Va.) on Tuesday night.

The win marked the second straight sweep of Salem (W. Va.) this year for Davis & Elkins (13-7, 6-3 MEC), which previously picked up a 3-0 home win against the Tigers on September 24. Kaitlyn LaCour had 19 kills on a blistering .516 hitting percentage for the Senators. Jessa Henry picked up six kills in the start, while Solei Daniels picked up five kills of her own.

Salem had just one player with a positive hitting percentage on the night. Yesenia Jackovijevic paced the Tigers with six kills, accounting for about 33% of the offense on Tuesday.

Sarah Warren passed out 27 assists and Kelly Smith added 10 digs and one kill for D&E.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Set One: Jessa Henry opened the match with a kill and Brianna Portley added an ace in an early 8-1 run to start the match. Three kills in the stretch of six points for Kaitlyn LaCour made it 14-2 and the Sentors continued that success for the 25-8 win. D&E hit .650 in the opening set.
  • Set Two: Cynthia Arango had a pair of aces in a 7-0 run to open the frame and the Senators piled it on following a Daniels kill for a 21-13 lead.
  • Set Three: Raleighanne Weaver delivered a kill for an 8-1 edge and an 8-0 spurt made it 16-3. Henry ended the match with another kill to seal the sweep.

MATCH NOTES
  • LaCour had her sixth consecutive match with 10+ kills for Davis & Elkins.
  • With 19 kills, LaCour posted more kills individually (19) than Salem did as a team for the match (15).
  • LaCour delivered the Senators highest hitting percentage in a match this season at .561 (minimum 12 kills).
  • D&E is now 7-3 in three-set matches this season.
  • Smith has posted 10+ digs in 10 consecutive matches.

  • D&E opens up a five-match homestand on Friday, November 1 against Glenville State. First serve from the McDonnell Center is slated for 7:00 PM.
