Men’s Soccer Scores Late for Win Over Concord

ELKINS, W. Va. – Davis & Elkins gave the fans that braved the cold a treat in its first game back at Nuttall Field in two weeks, defeating Concord by a 2-1 count in Mountain East Conference (MEC) play on Wednesday night.

James Gill, who made his first career start for the Senators, had several quality scoring looks throughout the contest and finally converted on a strike from outside the box in the 79th minute for a 2-1 lead. Gill recorded four shots on the night for Davis & Elkins (6-6, 5-6 MEC), which took a 1-0 lead on an own goal by Concord after Abel Ameyaw smacked a cross that deflected in.

Concord (2-8-2, 1-8-2 MEC) did not go quietly however, answering back to tie the game at one on a goal by Maxime Ramiulle in the 53rd minute. The Mountain Lions picked up the pace in the second half, collecting five shots in the frame after recording just one in the opening 45 minutes.

Everton Carvahlo made one save in the victory and Daniel Cerezo was buzzing with two shots and several long runs into the offensive zone. Gill had an attempt go wide off a well-played pass from Markus Just in the 34th minute as the Senators kept up the offensive pressure.
