Big First Half Guides Davis & Elkins to MEC Victory over Glenville State

ELKINS, W. Va. -  Four different Senators scored on Sunday afternoon through intermittent rain showers in a 4-0 home triumph over Glenville State in Mountain East Conference (MEC) play at Nuttall Field.

Davis & Elkins (6-4-2, 5-3-1 MEC) found the net three times in the first half for a comfortable lead at the break and added another tally less than one minute into the second half. Raquel Lewis, Hope Osborn and Madeline Stevenson each recorded their first career goals in the victory while Samantha Cozzolino charged in for another header in the opening half.

Glenville State (2-10, 0-8 MEC) increased the energy level in the second half after recording just one shot over the first 45 minutes of the conference contest. Morgan Smailes made four saves in 84 minutes before Alyssa Banks came on in relief in goal.

D&E scored three times on its first five shots in the opening half. Lewis began the scoring after finishing a pass from Asheli Freed for a 1-0 edge and Cozzolino doubled that advantage with a header from Maria Cabal's corner kick. Osborn dribbled free for a goal about four minutes later, increasing the lead to 3-0. Stevenson finished a shot from Angelina Horan quickly in the second half as the Senators pushed the lead to 4-0.
