URBANA, Ohio – Davis & Elkins could not overcome an early deficit in a 2-1 loss to Urbana on Saturday night in Mountain East Conference (MEC) play.
Urbana made the most of its early opportunities, striking for two goals on its first two shots within the opening 10 minutes of the game. Luke Nicholls found the back of the net at 2:43 and again less than six minutes later to hand the Blue Knights a quick 2-0 edge. Davis & Elkins was outshot 6-1 in the opening half but reversed the trend in the second 45 minutes.
Daniel Cerezo converted his first collegiate goal after sinking a shot to the left corner following a pass from
Luca Compagnucci, trimming the Senators deficit to 2-1 with just over 15 minutes remaining in regulation. Compagnucci worked the ball around the Urbana goalkeeper on the right side of the box near the end line and slid a pass directly to the waiting foot of Cerezo.
Cerezo had one final opportunity as the Senators franticly rushed up the field in search of the game-tying marker, but his attempt bounced wide right as the Blue Knights held on for the victory.
