ELKINS – The Davis & Elkins College Women's Basketball team fell to the University of Findlay in a defensive battle, losing 50-46 Thursday night in the Senators first contest of the new year.
After the visitors opened up a 9-point lead in the first quarter, Davis & Elkins worked their way back to go into the break tied at 28.
The turning point of the game came in the second half, when the two teams combined for just eight point in the third quarter.
The Senators took the lead with a
Kaylee Yergeau basket 64 seconds in.
However, the Senators would go scoreless for the next 12:12 of the contest, failing to score until
Sydney Nestor broke the drought with a layup at 6:42 in the fourth quarter.
Davis & Elkins would cut the deficit from eight points to two in the late stages but were unable to reel in the Oilers.
Colleena Burdock would lead all scorers in the contest with 21 points. She would also lead the Senators with five steals and four assists. The sophomore also grabbed four rebounds off the glass.
Jay Kilpatrick was the only other Senator in double figures, finishing with 11 points and two steals.
Courtney Roth led the Senators with five rebounds in the game and also had a pair of steals.
The Senators will return to action on Saturday, hosting Hillsdale. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. at the McDonnell Center.
