ELKINS – The Davis & Elkins College Volleyball team fell in a 5-set heartbreaking loss to Ursuline College Saturday afternoon in Great Midwest play.
The Senators took a 2-0 advantage with 27-25 and 25-17 victories, but fell to the Arrows 25-21, 25-17, 15-6 in the final three sets.
Davis & Elkins out hit Ursuline in three of the five matches, hitting .179 for the entire match while Ursuline was held to .164.
The Senators overcame deficits in the first two sets for the victories but was the victim of big comebacks in sets three and four by the Arrows.
Three Senators finished in double digits with kills.
Kaitlyn LaCour led the way with 18 kills, while
Solei Daniels and
Raleighanne Weaver has 12 kills and 10 kills, respectively.
Lillie Mueller finished with nine kills and had the highest attacking percentage at .400. Mueller also led the Senators, chipping in on five blocks.
Elyse Bonnett and
Jessa Henry each had 23 assists in the game.
Defensively,
Kelly Smith led the Senators with 30 digs in the match.
Briana Hoffmann had 20 digs, while LaCour (17) and
Madi Gill (12) also chipped in with double-digit digs.
The Senators will now set their sights on a non-conference match against Charleston on Tuesday. The match will be held at the McDonnell Center with a first serve set for 7 p.m.
