NORTH CANTON, Ohio - The Davis & Elkins College Volleyball team dropped its Great Midwest battle with Walsh University 3-0 Friday night. The Senators fell to the Cavaliers 25-18, 25-21, 25-23.
Davis & Elkins battled in each set, giving the hosts multiple challenges. In the first set, the Senators pushed it to 16-16 before the hosts pulled off a run five-straight points to pull away. In set two, Walsh pulled ahead early with a big lead, but the Senators fought back, holding serve on several mini runs to close the gap. In set three, the two teams traded the lead nine times, with 14 ties, battling back-and-forth all the way to the finish.
Kaitlyn LaCour led the way for the Senators with 11 kills. She also chipped in with two assisted blocks and seven digs.
Charisse Mitchell attached at a .500 clip for the match, finishing with four kills. Mitchell also led the Senators with five assisted blocks in the match.
Defensively,
Kelly Smith led the way with 11 digs, while
Madi Gil joined her in double figures with 10.
Briana Hoffmann was third on the Senators with eight.
Jessa Henry was the primary setter for D&E, finishing the match with 27 assists.
Davis & Elkins will return to action on Saturday, taking on Malone at 1 p.m. in Canton, Ohio.
