EDINBORO, Pa. – The Davis & Elkins College Volleyball team fell to host Edinboro 3-1 and Lock Haven 3-2 on the final day of the Rebich Investments Invitational on Saturday.
The Senators took the first set from Edinboro 25-18, but dropped three straight 25-16, 25-14 and 25-23 to fall in the first match.
In match two, the Senators also took a first set victory 25-20. After falling 25-21 in set two, D&E took the lead again with a 25-20 win in set three.
However, Lock Haven edged out the Senators 25-23 in set four to force a winner-take-all fifth set. Lock Haven then defeated the Senators with a 15-11 victory in the final set.
Kaitlyn LaCour had a big day offensively with 16 kills in game one and 17 kills in game two.
Luann O'Kane matched LaCour with 17 kills in game two and was second on the team with 11 in game one.
The duo also had a pair of aces each in the second match of the day. LaCour also had three aces in the early match, while
Kelly Smith had two and
Elyse Bonnett had one.
Bonnett had 19 assists in the first match and finished with 26 in the second match of the day. She shared the duties with
Jessa Henry, who had 11 and 19, respectively.
Defensively, Smith finished with 48 digs on the day to lead the way for the Senators. LaCour was second in digs in both matches, combining for 27.
In the second game, Bonnett (16),
Briana Hoffmann (14) and O'Kane (13) also were in double figures in digs, as the team set a season high with 98 in the game.
Charisse Mitchell led the Senators in blocks in both games, chipping in on 11 total blocks.
Raleighanne Weaver had seven on the day and Henry finished with six.
Davis & Elkins will return to action on Tuesday, as the Senators travel to West Virginia Wesleyan for a non-conference battle. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m. in Buckhannon.
