Volleyball Comes From Behind to Defeat WV Wesleyan 3-1

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – The Davis & Elkins College Volleyball team overcame a deficit to come from behind and defeat West Virginia Wesleyan 3-1 Tuesday evening in non-conference play.
 
After dropping the first set 25-19, the Senators were on the verge of going down 0-2 when D&E pulled together five consecutive points to win 26-24. The run was led by Charisse Mitchell and the defense with three blocks.
 
After leveling the match 1-1, the Senators comfortably went on to victory, defeating Wesleyan 25-17 and 25-16 in the final two sets.
 
The Senators were led on the attacking front by Luann O'Kane, Kaitlyn LaCour and Raleighanne Weaver. O'Kane and LaCour finished with 12 kills each, while Weaver had seven kills and had an attacking percentage of .316.
 
Defensively, Mitchell led the way up front, recording a pair of solo blocks while chipping in with seven more assisted blocks. Lillie Mueller, who joined Mitchell and Weaver with seven kills each, was a part of four blocks. Mueller also led the Senators with two aces.
 
LaCour led the Senators with 21 digs, while Kelly Smith had 20 digs. Briana Hoffmann and Madi Gil also finished in double digits with digs, recording 18 and 10, respectively.
 
Elyse Bonnett and Jessa Henry split the setting duties. Bonnett finished with 19 assists, while Henry had 17. Smith chipped in with three assists.
 
The Senators finished with a .131 attacking percentage on the night, while holding the Bobcats to a .063 attacking percentage.
 
Davis & Elkins will return to action on Friday, starting Great Midwest play with a match against Trevecca Nazarene. The match is set for a 7 p.m. start at the McDonnell Center.
