Women’s Soccer Plays To Scoreless Draw At West Liberty In Opener

WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The Davis & Elkins College Women's Soccer team played out to a 0-0 draw against West Liberty University in its season opener Saturday afternoon.
 
Lauren Hill made seven saves for the Senators in the game, preserving the clean sheet over 110 minutes.
 
Karin Rosario was the first to test a keeper from either side in the contest, following up a blocked shot with an effort on goal in the ninth minute, forcing Lauren Hartnell into action with the save.
 
Four minutes later, Hill made her first save of the contest, stopping a shot from Layne Hartnell.
 
Lisa Milliken would test Hartnell in the 20th minute, the final effort on frame for D&E in the first half.
 
West Liberty's closest effort of the half came from Emily Evans, but it was off the post in the 32nd minute.
 
Hill would be called into action one more time in the first half, stopping Mallory Baker's effort in the 39th minute.
 
In the second half, West Liberty would test Hill with a pair of efforts on target in the first four minutes, but the senior was able to contain both shots.
 
Ellie Rossiter put her only shot on target in the 55th minute and after the save, the Hilltoppers counter attack was stopped by Hill.
 
Asheli Freed picked up the only caution of the contest, seeing a yellow card in the 58th minute.
 
Layne Hartnell would hit the crossbar in the 66th minute, but Hill stopped the ensuing shot from Jordan Smith, the final major chance from the hosts.
 
Hill would make one more save on a header with 15 minutes to go in regulation.
 
Neither team made a shot attempt in the first overtime. West Liberty would fire two shots in the second overtime, but neither effort was on target.
 
The Hilltoppers outshot D&E 23-8, but only had seven efforts on target while the Senators had four.
 
Davis & Elkins will return to action on Thursday, as the Senators host Trevecca at Nuttall Field. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m., following the men's soccer game.
