Volleyball Tops Glenville 3-2 to Open Invitational

EDINBORO, Pa. – The Davis & Elkins College Volleyball team opened up the Rebich Investments Invitational with a 3-2 victory over Glenville State, holding off the Pioneers in a thrilling 5-set battle in the opening match of the tournament.
 
It was an all-around team performance for the Senators, who won the first two sets 25-15 and 25-14 before being forced into a fifth-set decider for the match. Glenville won sets three and four by scores of 25-21 and 25-10 before the Senators fought back to win the match decider 15-10.
 
Luann O'Kane led the Senators in kills, finishing with 12. Raleighanne Weaver was right behind O'Kane with 11 kills and also led the team with a .409 attacking percentage.
 
Solei Daniels (.333) and Lillie Mueller (.300) also had solid hitting performances for the Senators. Mueller finished with seven kills in the match.
 
Mueller also led the Senators at the net on the defensive side, chipping in for seven blocks on the night. Jessa Henry was right behind her with five blocks.
 
Henry and Elyse Bonnett split the setting duties. Henry finished with 18 assists, while Bonnett had 17 assists.
 
On the backline, Kelly Smith led the senators with 21 digs. Kaitlyn LaCour joined her in double figures with 10 digs to go along with eight kills.
 
LaCour also led the Senators with six service aces, finishing with a team high 15 points in the match. Bonnett had three aces and Mueller finished with two in the match.
 
The Senators hit above .290 in three of the five sets, averaging .187 for the entire match. The Senators held Glenville State to just .075, one of the two big differences in the match. Davis & Elkins also had 11 total blocks to just five for the Pioneers.
 
Davis & Elkins will play its final two games of the invitational tomorrow. The Senators start off with the hosts, Edinboro, at noon, before wrapping up their weekend against Lock Haven at 2 p.m.
