OWENSBORO, Ky. – The Davis & Elkins College Baseball team dropped a pair of close battles at Kentucky Wesleyan Friday afternoon, falling 10-7 in game one and 3-1 in game two.
In game one, the Senators fell behind early, as the hosts jumped up 3-0 in the top of the first inning of the games that were supposed to be played in Elkins.
Bragg Eastin doubled home
Maxx Mahon in the bottom of the first inning to put the Senators on the scoreboard.
After a scoreless second inning, the Panthers had a big third, plating six runs on five hits and an error.
Kentucky Wesleyan added another run in the seventh before the Senators started their comeback.
With the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh,
Travis Danielson cleared the bases with a double down the left field line, scoring
Johnny Liu,
Dominic Bianchini and
Robbie McKinney.
The Senators were held scoreless in the eighth but pulled an almost duplicate scoring play in the ninth. This time, Mahon doubled down the left field line to score
Hunter Thomas, Danielson and Liu.
However, the Senators were unable to close the gap anymore.
Derek Sicca picked up the loss, going 2.2 innings and allowing nine runs.
Nicholas Sanderson pitched the bulk of the innings, going 5.1 innings, allowing one run on three hits while striking out four.
In game two, the Senators found themselves in a tight battle that saw the game go scoreless into the fifth inning.
Davis & Elkins took the lead with
Chase DeGrood's RBI single to right center that scored
Shawn Pass.
Pass was the only Senator with multiple hits in the game, finishing with two singles.
The Senators held the lead into the seventh and final inning. However, the hosts would plate three runs on
Max Larimore to take the lead and the Senators were unable to answer back in the bottom half of the inning to fall 3-1.
Larimore went 6.1 innings, striking out seven while allowing three runs and four walks.
The Senators will return to action on Saturday as they remain in Kentucky for the final game of the series. First pitch is set for 12 p.m. CT in Owensboro.
