Baseball Defeats Cedarville In High-Scoring Game

CEDARVILLE, Ohio – The Davis & Elkins College Baseball team opened up its three-game series with Cedarville on Friday, earning a 15-9 victory in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference contest.
 
The Senators jumped out to a commanding lead, scoring in each of the first five innings to take a 10-0 lead.
 
Brandon Plummer started off the scoring with a bases loaded walk that allowed Robbie McKinney to score. Hunter Thomas then scored on a throwing error on a failed pickoff attempt.
 
Troy McMillion capped a three-run first inning with a single to right that scored Mahon.
 
In the second inning, Mahon singled to score McKinney for the only run of the inning.
 
The Senators would score three more runs in the third. Thomas doubled home a pair of runs and then later scored on a passed ball. McKinney and Travis Danielson scored on the double.
 
In the fourth inning, McMilion doubled home Chase DeGrood for the only run of the inning.
 
Mahon would add two more runs with a homerun to left in the fifth inning, scoring Thomas on the play.
 
Cedarville would respond however, scoring a run in the fifth before a huge seven-run inning in the sixth to cut the deficit to 10-8.
 
The Senators answered back with three runs in the seventh. Corey Mays had a bunt single in the seventh that resulted in a defensive error for Cedarville and Mahon and Thomas scored on the play.
 
Later in the inning, Plummer would ground out and Mays scored on the play.
 
After Cedarville scored in the seventh, Thomas extended the Senators lead with a single to center, scoring McMillion. Thomas would then steal second, forcing a throwing error that allowed Johnny Renzelli to score the final run of the game.
 
Thomas finished the game going 5-for-6 at the plate, while Mahon and McMillion each went 4-for-5.
 
Brent McMillion picked up the win, going 5.1 innings, allowing three runs, two earned, while striking out six.
 
Austin Main earned the save, tossing three scoreless innings, allowing just three hits while striking out five.
 
The Senators return to action on Saturday, taking on Cedarville for a doubleheader to close the series. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. in Ohio.
