ELKINS – Davis & Elkins College Baseball fell to Alderson Broaddus 4-3 in the rubber match of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference series Sunday afternoon at Harpertown Field.
The Senators took the lead in the second inning, as
Bragg Eastin scored from third on a wild pitch with the bases loaded and no outs.
However, the Senators were unable to plate any more runs in the inning, being thrown out at home on a fielder's choice and stranding two baserunners.
The Battlers would tie the game in the fifth as
Noah Jarboe hit the first batter he faced in a relief appearance with the bases loaded.
Alderson Broaddus then scored two more runs on a double to right, but the third base runner was called out at home on a key relay play from Eastin to
Steven White at second and then home to
Troy McMillion.
All three runs were charged to
Derek Sicca, who started the game and went 4.1 innings.
The Senators would cut the two-run deficit in half with
Brandon Plummer's single through the left side with runners on second and third that scored Eastin.
The visitors would double their lead with a sacrifice fly in the seventh, going up 4-2.
Davis & Elkins would get one run back with
Robbie McKinney's solo homerun off the scoreboard in right field.
McKinney finished the game going 3-for-3 at the plate. Plummer went 2-for-4, while Eastin was 1-for-3 with a walk.
Max Larimore had the best outing for the Senators on the mound, inheriting a pair of baserunners with no outs, but was able to get out of the jam retiring the next three batters without giving up a run.
Davis & Elkins returns to action on Wednesday in the home finale, taking on West Virginia Wesleyan at Harpertown Field. First pitch is set for 3:00 p.m.
