Baseball Swept In Series With Ohio Valley

PARKERSBURG, W.Va. – The Davis & Elkins College Baseball team dropped its Great Midwest Athletic Conference series with Ohio Valley University, falling in all three games on Friday and Saturday.
 
The Senators dropped a high-scoring contest in game one 13-9. Ohio Valley jumped out to a 6-0 lead with a pair of runs in the first, second and fourth innings.
 
Davis & Elkins started its comeback effort in the fifth inning when Hunter Thomas hit an RBI double down the left-field line that scored Travis Danielson.
 
Later in the inning, Maxx Mahon had an RBI single up the middle that brought home Thomas.
 
The Fighting Scots responded with four runs in the sixth inning, scoring the eventual winning runs to go up 10-2.
 
The Senators would bat around to put up seven runs in the seventh inning. Once again, Thomas started the scoring with an infield single with the bases loaded. Chase DeGrood scored on the play.
 
Max Mahon then cleared the bases with a double to right center, scoring James Turnbull, Danielson and Thomas.
 
After Bragg Eastin reached base, he and Mahon scored on a Shawn Pass single. Pass would later score on a first-and-third double steal, with Brandon Plummer taking second on the play.
 
Despite cutting the deficit to 10-9, the Senators fell out of reach as the hosts scored three in the bottom of the seventh and held on for the victory.
 
Arman Lakhani picked up the loss, allowing eight runs, five earned on seven hits in 5.1 innings of work. Lakhani did have seven strikeouts in the game.
 
In game two, the Senators fell late to Ohio Valley, dropping the seven-inning game 6-5.
 
Ohio Valley took a 3-0 lead in the second innings, but the Senators responded back with two runs in the top of the third. Johnny Liu scored on a ball in play by Steven White for the Senators' first run.
 
Mahon then grounded out to the right side, allowing Turnbull to score from third.
 
After Ohio Valley scored two in the fourth to go up 5-2, Davis & Elkins responded with three in the fifth to tie the game. Mahon batted home two runs with his double to left center, scoring White and Turnbull. Corey Mays then singled to score Mahon later in the inning.
 
Despite tying the game, the Senators were unable to grab a lead, as The Fighting Scots scored in the bottom of the fifth for the final run of the game, going ahead 6-5.
 
Derek Sicca picked up the loss in relief, allowing one run in .2 innings of work. Max Larimore had the start, allowing five runs on five hits and five walks in 3.1 innings of a no decision.
 
Austin Main tossed the final two innings, allowing just one hit while striking out four.
 
In the third game of the series on Saturday, the Senators started off hot, taking the lead for the first time in the series in the top of the first.
 
The Senators scored three in the top of the first with Thomas scoring on a fielder's choice ball in play by Pass for the first run. Tyler Mason then hit a two-run homerun with Pass on base to put D&E up 3-0.
 
In the second inning, Robbie McKinney scored on Danielson's double to left, putting the Senators ahead 4-0.
 
However, Ohio Valley would score eight runs unanswered starting with two in the fourth. The hosts would add three in the fifth to take the lead and score three more insurance runs in the seventh.
 
Brent McMillion picked up the loss, tossing 4.2 innings allowing five runs, three unearned. McMillion allowed seven hits while striking out four.
 
Davis & Elkins is set to return to action on Wednesday, traveling to West Virginia Wesleyan to take on the Bobcats in a non-conference clash. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. in Buckhannon.
