THOMASVILLE, N.C. – The Davis & Elkins College Baseball team fell to Lock Haven University in both games of Sunday's finale in the Chair City Classic. The Senators fell 5-1 in game one and 13-7 in game two.
In game one, the Senators fell behind to Lock Haven in the second inning when the Bald Eagles scored two runs.
Lock Haven would add another run in the third before Davis & Elkins scored their only run of the game on a
Connor Fitzgerald double that scored
Robbie McKinney.
Lock Haven would respond with two more runs in the fourth.
Cody Luker picked up the loss, going four innings while allowing all five runs, three earned.
Nicholas Sanderson pitched three scoreless innings of relief, allowing two hits while striking out three.
In game two, the Senators took the lead in the top of the first, scoring three runs. Fitzgerald drove in the first run with an RBI single to score
Johnny Liu.
Chase DeGrood then doubled home
Bragg Eastin before Fitzgerald scored on a single by James Turnball to cap the scoring for D&E in the inning.
Lock Haven answered back with two runs in the bottom of the first and two runs in the second, one run unearned in each inning.
After a scoreless third and fourth, the Senators took the lead in the fifth with
Maxx Mahon and
Shawn Pass scoring by way of an error from the Bald Eagles.
The lead was short-lived however, as Lock Haven capitalized on multiple errors to score nine runs in the bottom half of the inning.
In the bottom of the sixth,
Brandon Plummer pitched a 1-2-3 inning for the Senators with three strikeouts. Plummer then hit a two-run homerun in the top of the seventh to finish the scoring for the contest.
Owen Arbogast picked up a tough-luck loss, allowing six runs total, but only three earned in four innings of work. Arbogast had four strikeouts in the contest.
The Senators will return to action after spring break, taking on Salem International on Tuesday, March 13. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. in Clarksburg.
