EASTLAKE, Ohio – The Davis & Elkins College Baseball team fell to Lake Erie College in both games of a doubleheader Sunday afternoon at Classic Park in Great Midwest Athletic Conference play.
The Senators lost the lead late in game one to fall 4-2 and then fell 9-6 in the second game.
Davis & Elkins fell behind when a throwing error allowed for a run in the top of the first in game one.
The Senators answered back and tied up the game with a run from
Hunter Thomas in the third on a single by
Robbie McKinney.
Davis & Elkins took the lead in the seventh on an RBI single by
James Turnbull that scored
Bragg Eastin.
With a 2-1 lead going into the final two innings, the Senators lost the lead when Lake Erie scored a run to tie the game in the eighth.
In the ninth, the Senators gave up a pair of runs on two errors and a hit by pitch to fall 4-2.
Arman Lakhani tossed 7.2 innings in the no decision, striking out eight, while allowing just one earned run.
Max Larimore picked up the loss, giving up a run on a walk and a hit batter.
In game two, Lake Erie jumped ahead by six with three runs in the first and three more in the second.
The Senators plated a run in the second with an RBI single by
Steven White that scored
Tyler Mason.
Davis & Elkins scored another run in the third on an error that allowed
Maxx Mahon to score from third.
The Senators cut the deficit to three with a run in the sixth as
Chase DeGrood singled and Danielson scored.
Lake Erie would score three in the top of the seventh to pull back ahead by six runs.
Davis & Elkins would make a rally, scoring three in the bottom of the seventh. McKinney started with a single to center, scoring Thomas.
Danielson then singled to score McKinney. Eastin then scored on a failed pickoff attempt, but the Senators were unable to generate any more runs in the inning, dropping the game.
Austin Main tossed 5.1 innings in relief for the Senators in game two, striking out 10 batters. Main allowed two earned runs, three runs overall, on seven hits, without allowing a walk.
The Senators will return to action on Tuesday with a non-conference battle against California (PA). The game is set for a 2 p.m. start at Harpertown Field.
