Baseball Falls To #18 Ohio Dominican

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Davis & Elkins College Baseball team dropped its Great Midwest Athletic Conference doubleheader to No. 18 Ohio Dominican on Saturday. The Senators fell 11-9 in game one and 26-6 in game two.

The Senators threatened the Panthers in game one, making a mid-innings rally. However, Ohio Dominican, who hosted the games that were originally scheduled to be played in Elkins, was able to hold on in the late innings.

Davis & Elkins fell behind early, as the Panthers scored four in the first, three in the second and two in the third to take a commanding lead.

The Senators answered back with a Robbie McKinney double to right center that scored Steven White in the third.

McKinney then would start a 5-run inning in the fifth with a bases loaded walk that scored James Turnbull. White would score seconds later on a wild pitch.

Brandon Plummer followed it up with an infield single to score Hunter Thomas and Tyler Mason capped off the inning with a two-RBI single to center field that scored Maxx Mahon and McKinney.

After Ohio Dominican answered back with two runs in the sixth, the Senators would load the bases in the bottom half of the inning and draw consecutive RBI walks from Mahon and Plummer that scored White and Thomas.

Bragg Eastin capped of the scoring with a single to left center that scored McKinney.

However, the Senators would strand the bases loaded in the inning, part of nine runners left on base in the game, and they would be unable to close the gap any further, falling by two.

In game two, the Panthers again started strong, this time scoring six in the first before three in the second and two in the third.

The Senators would score four runs in the fourth, two coming from a homerun off the bat of Mahon, followed by consecutive RBI hits from Travis Danielson and Corey Mays.

Ohio Dominican would answer right back with nine runs in the fifth and then six more in the seventh.

Davis & Elkins would score two in the bottom of the seventh off of an RBI double from Connor Fitzgerald to cap off the scoring.

Davis & Elkins will return to action on Sunday, as the Senators travel to Painesville, Ohio to take on Lake Erie. The doubleheader is set for a 1 p.m. first pitch against the Storm.
