MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – The Davis & Elkins College Baseball team fell to No. 5 Mount Olive 20-3 on Sunday to close the three-game series.
The Senators took the lead in the top of the first inning with three runs as
Maxx Mahon led the big inning for the Senators.
Mahon started off with a double to centerfield, scoring
Johnny Liu and
Hunter Thomas to put the Senators ahead. Mahon then scored on
Connor Fitzgerald's single to center.
The Senators would hold the lead through the second inning, but the hosts used a 10-run third inning to take the lead and blow open a big margin that the Senators would not be able to overcome.
Mount Olive would add a run in the fifth, three in the sixth, two in the seventh and four in the eighth to expand their lead.
Shawn Pass picked up the loss, going two innings, allowing six runs on six hits and a walk.
Arman Lakhani had the best outing for the Senators, going two innings, allowing just one run on two hits with two strikeouts.
The Senators will return to action on Wednesday, traveling to Pennsylvania to take on California (PA) for a doubleheader on the final day of February.
