GREENEVILLE, Tenn. – Davis & Elkins College Baseball picked up its first win of the season on Sunday as the Senators split a doubleheader at Pioneer Park.
The Senators fell to Notre Dame College 10-2 before defeating host Tusculum 4-2 in the final game of the day.
Davis & Elkins fell behind to Notre Dame early in game one as two errors allowed for four runs for Notre Dame in the top of the first.
The Senators would get their first of two runs in the game on a sacrifice fly by
Connor Fitzgerald that scored
Shawn Pass, who tripled earlier in the inning.
Notre Dame would add three more runs in the third and a run in the sixth before scoring two runs in the ninth inning.
Davis & Elkins would add one more run in the ninth with
Shawn Pass hitting an RBI double to score
Bragg Eastin from first.
Derek Sicca picked up the loss in the contest, allowing seven runs, four earned, in four innings pitched. Sicca had three strikeouts and no walks in the game.
Arman Lakhani had a strong game in relief, allowing just one run in four innings. Lakhani had five strikeouts, allowing just one hit and one walk.
In game two, the Senators took the lead in the third inning with
Johnny Liu's RBI single to score
Dominic Bianchini from second. Liu finished the game with three hits and two RBIs
Davis & Elkins extended the lead in the fourth inning with two runs on a two-out rally.
Nicholas Sanderson singled with two outs and moved to third on
Chase DeGrood's single in the next at bat.
Bianchini then reached on an error that allowed Sanderson to score.
James Turnbull then singled to score DeGrood.
In the sixth inning, the Senators extended their lead to four runs with Bianchini scoring on a sacrifice fly by Liu that was dropped in right field.
Defensively, the Senators were led by
Cody Luker on the mound. Luker tossed 5.2 innings, allowing just one run on three hits. Luker had three strikeouts in the game.
Austin Main picked up a 10-out save in the game, striking out six batters while allowing just one unearned run on three hits and a walk.
The Senators will return to action on Monday with two more contests. Davis & Elkins will take on Notre Dame at 11 a.m. in game on, before taking on Tusculum at 6 p.m. to close out the roadtrip.
