ELKINS – Senior
Aliyah Dukes led all scorers as she helped propel the Davis & Elkins College Women's basketball team to a 74-68 victory in overtime on Senior Day against Kentucky Wesleyan on Saturday at the McDonnell Center.
Dukes finished with 27 points in the contest, as she wrapped up her career at the McDonnel Center, along with
Sydney Turner and
Alicia Roth, with a come-from-behind victory.
The Senators trailed by eight points in the second half but worked their way back against the Panthers to take the lead late in the game.
However, with five seconds remaining, the visitors hit a three pointer to tie the game and force the overtime period.
Dukes' free throw first and second free throw of the overtime put D&E in the lead. After two more free throws from Dukes, followed by layups from
Colleena Burdock and Turner, the Senators pulled away to clinch their fifth-straight win.
Burdock joined Dukes in double figure, scoring 17 points off the bench.
Turner finished with five points and four rebounds in her final home game as a Senator. Roth added four points and five rebounds
With the win, the Senators pull to within one game of Lake Erie for the final spot in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Tournament, with two games remaining next week.
The Senators will travel to Cedarville to take on the Yellow Jackets on Thursday. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m. in Ohio.
