ELKINS – The Davis & Elkins College Women's Basketball team picked up their fourth straight victory on Thursday as the Senators defeated Trevecca Nazarene 71-61 in Great Midwest Athletic Conference play.
After the teams exchanged the lead early in the first quarter, Davis & Elkins took control with a 9-4 run over the final 2:27 to break a 13-13 tie and the Senators never looked back.
Aliyah Dukes continued her momentum from her big night on Monday, scoring 15 first-half points to help D&E take a 38-31 lead into the break.
With the Trojans defense focused heavily on Dukes in the second half, the Senators put in a strong team performance to fight off charges from the visitors and seal a 10-point victory.
Colleena Burdock was one of the key performers in the second half, coming off the bench to score all nine of her points to lead the way over the final 20 minutes.
Dukes added another eight points, as nine Senators contributed with points to help D&E pick up a huge win in the battle for the final spots in the G-MAC Tournament in two weeks.
Dukes finished with a team high three steals.
Burdock led the Senators on the glass with five rebounds, as all 12 players had at least one rebound in the game.
The Senators will take on Kentucky Wesleyan on Saturday, which will be senior day for Dukes,
Sydney Turner and
Alicia Roth. Senior Day will be prior to tipoff, which is set for noon at the McDonnell Center.
