Dukes Sets Multiple Records In Senators Victory Over Concord

ELKINSAliyah Dukes rewrote the record books Monday night as the senior led Davis & Elkins to an 83-67 victory over Concord at the McDonnell Center.
 
Dukes set D&E single game records for points (43), three pointers made (11) and three-point field goal percentage (.687). Her 11 three pointers also tied the Great Midwest Athletic Conference record.
 
The Clemson, South Carolina native was 13-for-24 in the game, and 11-for-16 from behind the arc, as she played all 40 minutes for the Senators.
 
Dukes also sank six free throws to help her to 43 total points, which ties the NCAA Division II high for the season with Mariah Szymanski of Sioux Falls and Michaela Barry of Nebraska-Kearney.
 
The 11 three pointers matched Baylee Bennett of Cedarville for the Great Midwest Athletic Conference single-game record.
 
After falling behind early, the Senators (9-15) dominated over the final minutes of the quarter to go up 18-12 after 10 minutes.

Dukes started her run for the record books in the second quarter as she made four three pointers to pace the Senators and hold their advantage over Concord (11-13). Colleena Burdock, Sydney Snyder and Nicole Armstrong also made baskets to give the Senators a 39-31 halftime lead.
 
Each team contributed to a fast-paced, high-scoring third quarter, combining for 46 points. Dukes made three more shots from behind the arc to take eight total three pointers into the fourth quarter. Kali Wilburn and Burdock added six points each.

Burdock joined Dukes in double figures with 12 points. She also had four assists and two steals.

The Senators would withstand the pressure from Concord and pulled away in the fourth quarter to seal off their third straight victory, outscoring the Mountain Lions 21-13 in the final quarter.
 
Dukes tied the school record for three pointers, held by current Senators Sydney Turner and Sydney Snyder, after consecutive shots made from behind the arc with less than four minutes remaining. She then tied Stephanie Wooten's 40-point record with a pair of free-throws with less than two minutes remaining.

With 22 seconds to go in the game, Dukes hit her 11th three pointer, claiming both of the records. 
 
Dukes also led the Senators with six assists and five rebounds in the game and finished with two steals.
  
Armstrong finished with nine points. Kali Wilburn had eight points, four rebounds and two steals.
 
Davis & Elkins will return to conference play on Thursday as the Senators get set for their final home week of the season. The Senators take on Trevecca this Thursday with a tip set for 5:30 p.m. in the McDonnell Center.
