Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Senators Top Salem 57-41

SALEM, W.Va. – The Davis & Elkins College Women's basketball team reeled off its second straight victory over an opponent from West Virginia Saturday afternoon, defeating Salem University 57-41 in non-conference play.

Salem took the lead in the game with a three on the very first shot. However, the Senator answered back with a pair of free throws and then a jumper by Aliyah Dukes and the Senators never looked back.

Jay Kilpatrick and Sydney Turner then made a layup and a three pointer, respectively, to open the game to 9-3. The Senators would maintain that margin all the way through the first quarter, leading 17-11 after 10 minutes.

Salem would make a run on the Senators and close the gap to just two points headed into the half, but Davis & Elkins would start the second half with a 12-2 run to pull away from the Tigers.

The Senators defense would hold Salem to just eight points in the third quarter, while D&E scored 21 points to pull away for good.

Dukes led all scorers in the game with 19 points. The senior also collected four assists and grabbed three rebounds.

Turner was the only other Senator in double digits, finishing with 13 points and five rebounds.

Kali Wilburn and Kaylee Yergeau each had six points.

Colleena Burdock and Casey Johnson shared for a team high eight rebounds in the game, while Kilpatrick led the Senators with three steals.

The Senators will return to action on Monday with a quick turnaround to face Concord. The game will mark the first of three straight at home to close out the regular season at the McDonnell Center. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
