Women's Basketball Grabs First G-MAC Win By Defeating Rival AB 66-55

ELKINS – The Davis & Elkins College Women's Basketball team opened up its Great Midwest home schedule with a 66-55 victory over rival Alderson Broaddus Thursday night at the McDonnell Center.

The game started slow for the Senators who quickly fell behind 13-4 in the opening minutes of the game. The Senators struggled to gain ground on their visitors until Kayla James hit a three pointer for the final points of the quarter, cutting the deficit to 18-13.

However, Alderson Broaddus would go on the offensive again to start the second quarter taking a 23-13 lead with two early baskets.

Davis & Elkins would then use a Kaylee Yergeau basket as the starting point to an 18-3 run over the final 6:49 of the half to take a 31-26 lead into the break.

The Senators would never look back quickly opening up a double-digit lead in the second half, expanding it to as much as 17 in the fourth quarter as the Senators cruised the rest of the way to their first conference victory of the season.

Kali Wilburn led all scorers in the contest with 21 points. Wilburn was 7-for-13 from the field and a perfect 7-for-7 from the free-throw line. She also had three rebounds, a steal and an assist.

Nicole Armstrong joined Wilburn in double figures, finishing with 12 points, while also having three rebounds and a steal.

Colleena Burdock finished with three rebounds and three assists, but also chipped in with four steals to go along with seven points in the game.

Casey Johnson led the Senators with four rebounds in a game where 11 different Senators had at least one rebound and 10 Senators finished on the scoresheet.

Davis & Elkins will have a week off before returning to action next Thursday in another home contest, welcoming in Ohio Dominican for a Great Midwest doubleheader. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at the McDonnell Center.
