ELKINS – The Davis & Elkins College Women's Basketball team fell in a back and forth battle to Ohio Dominican University 66-62 Thursday night at the McDonnell Center.
The Senators got off to a slow start in the final home game of the semester but overcame a large deficit to lead and battle with the Panthers.
The visitors jumped out to a 21-6 lead after just 10 minutes of action. However, the Senators nearly flipped the scoring in the second quarter, outscoring the Panthers 22-10 to cut the deficit to just three points headed into the break.
The Senators continued to play well in the third quarter, opening up as much as a seven-point lead 52 seconds into the fourth quarter.
However, Ohio Dominican would storm back and regained the lead late to defeat the Senators.
Colleena Burdock led the Senators in scoring, finishing with 15 points. She also led the Senators with five assists and five steals, while collecting four rebounds.
Kali Wilburn led the Senators on the glass, finishing with seven rebounds to go along with eight points and a block.
Nicole Armstrong was the only other Senator in double figures, finishing with 11 points, two rebounds and two assists.
Jamiyah Johnson was 4-for-6 from the field and finished with nine points, while the center also collected six rebounds and had two steals.
Davis & Elkins will look to rebound on Saturday, traveling to Ohio Valley. The Senators tip off with the Fighting Scots at 1 p.m. in Vienna.
