PAINESVILLE, Ohio – The Davis & Elkins College Women's Basketball team fell to Lake Erie College 59-56 in a tight battle in Great Midwest Athletic Conference play Saturday afternoon.
The Senators jumped out to a big lead early, going ahead by as much as 13 in the second quarter as the visitors opened up a 24-11 lead over the Storm.
However, the hosts would cut into the advantage, using a buzzer-beater at the end of the first half to cut the deficit to just three points, as the Senators took a 30-27 lead into the break.
After a tight third quarter, the Senators held a 1-point advantage going into the final frame, but Davis & Elkins went cold from the floor, making just one of 10 shots from the field over the final 10 minutes.
Lake Erie would go ahead by as much as seven, with the Senators cutting back into the gap at the free-throw line and win a single three pointer from
Jay Kilpatrick.
Kilpatrick was one of three Senators in double figures, finishing with 10 points along with
Jamiyah Johnson.
Kali Wilburn led the way for the Senators with 19 points in the contest. Wilburn and Johnson also shared for the lead in rebounds with six boards each.
Johnson led the Senators with two assists, two steals and a block.
Davis & Elkins will look to rebound with their Great Midwest home opener on Thursday, hosting rival Alderson Broaddus. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at the McDonnell Center.
