ELKINS – The Davis & Elkins College Men's Soccer team picked up a big 2-0 win Saturday afternoon at Nuttall Field, defeating the University of Findlay in a key Great Midwest Athletic Conference battle.
The Senators were powered by
Pedro Bassin Nunes, who scored a first half brace to lift the Senators to victory, while
Everton Carvalho stopped four shots on his way to a cleansheet.
In the 14
th minute, Bassin Nunes gave the Senators the lead when he fired in a shot off a cross from
Alex Samarzich.
Exactly eight minutes later, Bassin Nunes would double the Senators lead with his second of the game and fourth of the season.
Charles Mavronis originally had a shot saved but the rebound was unable to be controlled by Nathan Sier and Bassin Nunes poked it home for the goal.
The Senators continued to dominate the first half, outshooting the visitors 9-2 in the half, while also keeping Findlay from an effort on target despite four corner kicks for the Oilers.
The second half was a different story, as Findlay found some offensive momentum, firing 10 shots to just two shots from Davis & Elkins.
The Oilers had four shots on target, but Carvalho matched each of the efforts to pick up his first shutout of the season.
The Senators will now set their sights on another important match in the Great Midwest tournament picture, as Davis & Elkins travels to Cedarville on Thursday. Kickoff is set for 3:00 p.m. in Ohio.
