CEDARVILLE, Ohio – The Davis & Elkins College Men's Soccer team fell to a second half defeat at Cedarville 2-1, Thursday afternoon in Great Midwest play.
With the game tied at 1, the Yellow Jackets took the lead in the 67th minute, as Guilherme Fernandes took a pass from outside the box and fired a low shot from 10 yards for the game winner.
Cedarville took the lead in the 17th minute as Cole Butaud beat
Everton Carvalho from close range on a pass from the baseline to the 6-yard box.
Abel Ameyaw tied the game up for the Senators in the 34th minute. On a set piece following a foul outside the box,
Patrick Holley fed the ball to
Markus Just who then set up Ameyaw to score from eight yards out.
The Senators had two chances to tie the game in the final 20 minutes. First, Just fired wide right in the 78th minute.
Pedro Bassin Nunes then had a shot blocked in the 85th minute that led to a corner kick, but the Senators were unable to get an effort toward goal.
Cedarville outshot the Senators 9-8 in the match with four shots on goal.
Everton Carvalho finished the game with two saves.
Davis & Elkins will return to action on Saturday, hosting Ohio Dominican for homecoming. The game is set for a 12:30 p.m. start at Nuttall Field with a special Celebration of Soccer scheduled for halftime.
