PAINESVILLE, Ohio – The Davis & Elkins College Women's basketball team fell to Lake Erie College in Great Midwest Athletic Conference action 77-70 on Tuesday night.
The Senators never led in the contest, as Lake Erie scored first and pulled out to a 22-14 lead after 10 minutes.
The hosts would continue to grow their lead to as much as 14 in the third quarter before the Senators would rally.
Aliyah Dukes hit a three pointer with 5:51 to go in the game to cut the deficit to just three points, capping off a 23-12 run that brought the game to just one possession.
However, Lake Erie would answer back with a layup almost immediately to take a 71-66 lead. Both teams would go cold from the floor, as the game went scoreless from the 5:32 mark until 1:18 remaining when Lake Erie extended the lead.
Dukes matched Lake Erie's Kayla Gabor with a game-high 22 points. Dukes also had three steals and two rebounds in the game.
Sydney Turner had 13 points in the game and
Kali Wilburn had 10 points to join Dukes in double figures. Wilburn had six rebounds.
Jamiyah Johnson led the Senators with nine rebounds in the game.
Colleena Burdock added eight points off the bench and led the Senators with five assists in the game. The freshman also had five rebounds.
Davis & Elkins will return to action on Saturday, as the Senators take on rival Alderson Broaddus on the road. The game is set for a 4 p.m. tip off in Philippi.
