ELKINS – The Davis & Elkins College Women's Basketball team made a strong surge in the fourth quarter of Saturday's game against Walsh, but the Senators rally fell short, losing 67-61 to the Cavaliers in Great Midwest Athletic Conference action at the McDonnell Center.
 
The Senators (6-13, 4-11 G-MAC) fell behind the Cavaliers (12-7, 9-4 G-MAC) early in the first quarter, but rallied to head into the second trailing 15-13. However, the visitors outscored the Senators 14-6 in the second and 22-16 in the third to lead 29-19 at the half and 51-35 after three quarters of play.
 
After Walsh went up by 19 early in the fourth, Davis & Elkins started its rally, using a 23-6 run over 6:22 to cut the deficit to 62-60. However, Walsh would sink five of its last six free-throw attempts to hold off the Senators.
 
Aliyah Dukes poured in a game-high 24 points for the Senators, who outscored the visitors 26-16 in the final frame. Dukes also had six assists and three rebounds.
 
Kali Wilburn added 11 points and six rebounds for Davis & Elkins.
 
The Senators will return to action on Tuesday when the travel to Lake Erie College. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. in Painesville, Ohio.
