ELKINS – The Women's Basketball Team dropped a heartbreaker Monday afternoon, falling to Ursuline 79-74 late at home.
In a game where the home and visitors traded leads back-and-forth, the Senators battled the visitors to the very end.
In the first quarter, the Senators traded leads with the Arrows and led 20-18 at the end of the first quarter.
In the second quarter, Ursuline used a big run to retake the lead, and led as much as 12 points at one point of the quarter. However, D&E went on a 10-0 run to cut Ursuline's lead to two at the end of the half.
The Arrows started off hot early in third quarter and retook the lead. The Senators fought back and took the lead again, and held on to a slim lead at the end of the third quarter.
D&E had the lead for much of the fourth quarter, and tied the game with 36 seconds left in the game after
Jay Kilpatrick made a pair of free-throws. However, in the following possession, Ursuline took the lead with six seconds left in the game, and the Senators was unable to connect with the game-tying free-throw.
In the next possession, D&E fouled an Ursuline player in hopes of getting the ball back, but the Arrows made two-of two free-throws to put the game out of reach for the Senators.
Jay Kilpatrick was one of four Senators in double figures, scoring 17 points and going 7-for-8 from the charity stripe. Kilpatrick also had two rebounds, three assists to go along with two steals.
Sydney Turner had 15 points and grabbed four rebounds.
Aliyah Dukes also had 15 points, grabbed four boards, and dishing out five assists.
Kali Wilburn had 10 points and grabbed six rebounds to go with three steals.
The Senators will return to action Wednesday to take on Salem International at home. Tip-off is 5:30 p.m.
