ELKINS - The Davis & Elkins College Men's Soccer team rebounded from a defeat last week with a big 4-0 victory over Walsh University Wednesday night in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference home opener for the Senators.

The Senators struggled to find momentum in the opening 25 minutes of the first half, but D&E would use a quick attack to break onto the scoresheet, as Tim Staerz buried a cross from Abel Ameyaw into the back of the net in the 31st minute.

Davis & Elkins would carry the 1-0 lead into the halftime break.

After a first half where both teams finished with 11 shots, the Senators completely took over the game, outshooting Walsh 16-4 in the second half.

It wouldn't take long for the hosts to double their lead, as Ameyaw found himself on the other end of the scoring play, finishing a pass from Pablo Salvador Lopez to put the Senators up 2-0 inside the first minute of the second half.

Davis & Elkins also had six corner kicks in the second half and capitalized on the set piece advantage.

In the 64th minute, Staerz would double his tally, connecting directly off of a corner from Simon Hested to beat Walsh keeper Tom Jackson and put the Senators up 3-0.

Felipe Polycarpo would cap the scoring with his first goal as a Senator in the 82nd minute. Polycarpo would find himself in the perfect spot toward the top of the box as Jackson would push a ball away from the goal that fell right to the feet of the junior, who calmly finished to give the Senators a 4-0 lead and eventual victory.

Davis & Elkins will return to action on Saturday, as the Senators host Malone University. The contest is set for a 7:30 p.m. start at Nuttall Field.
