ELKINS – The Davis & Elkins College Men's Soccer team fell to No. 17 Mercyhurst University 2-0 on Saturday night at Nuttell Field.
The loss was the first for the Senators in 2017, but the Senators played equal to and matched the top-25 ranked Lakers for most of the contest.
The Senators controlled the early part of the game until the Senators defense gave up an inadvertent handball in the box which gave Mercyhurst a penalty kick.
Christopher Mankengo slotted the penalty kick into the bottom right corner to give the Lakers the lead in the 34
th minute.
The Senators continued to match Mercyhurst throughout the game, but the Lakers' Fjodor vanKipperslui connected onto a free kick by Connor Wilkinson into the box to double their advantage and secure the victory.
Hedi Mehnaoui made three saves for the Senators in the game, while
Pablo Salvador Lopez led the Senators offensively with four of D&E's 13 shots.
Davis & Elkins will return to action on Wednesday with a conference battle against Walsh. The game is set for 7:30 p.m. at Nuttall Field.
