Senators Split With Malone To Close Series

ELKINS – The Davis & Elkins College Baseball team earned a split with Malone University on Saturday, winning on a walk off in game one 1-0, before falling in game two 5-4.

Austin Main threw an absolute gem on Saturday in game one, tossing a four hitter to give the Senators a chance to win and keep hopes of a postseason alive. Main also had three strikeouts in the game.

Offensively, the Senators had 10 hits, but squandered several scoring chances early.

However, Bragg Eastin reached on a hit by pitch and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Hunter Thomas to start the seventh. After Nick Dellavalle was intentionally walked and Steven White popped into an infield fly, Robbie McKinney stepped up after going 3-for-3 to that point.

Continuing his strong day, McKinney roped his fourth hit of the game to left center and Eastin came around to score the walk-off run.

In game two, the Senators started the scoring early, as McKinney scored on a wild pitch and Liu then scored on a groundout by Garrett Dorton, after the two led off the inning with singles.

Malone would answer in the second with a run scored on another wild pitch, but Davis & Elkins would take a three-run lead in the third with four consecutive two-out singles.

Michael Wood and Dorton started the rally with singles, putting runners on the corners.

Wood then scored on Cody Gwinn's single to right center. Eastin then followed it up with a single to score Dorton.

However, Malone would eventually get to starter Brent McMillion and scored a run in the sixth, using a bases loaded walk to cut the deficit to 4-2.

Arman Lakhani would get the Senators out of the jam, but Malone would score three runs on Lakhani in the seventh, taking a 5-4 lead.

The Senators would get the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth with one out, but a strikeout and fly out ended the chances for Davis & Elkins.

D&E will return to action on Tuesday with the final non-conference game of the year against West Liberty. The game is set for a 3 p.m. start at Harpertown Field.
