ELKINS – The Davis & Elkins College Baseball team wrapped up its non-conference schedule on Tuesday, falling to West Liberty 6-5 at Harpertown Field.
The Senators fell behind early, as West Liberty capitalized on an error to score a run in the top of the first and take a lead.
Davis & Elkins would answer back in the bottom of the first capitalizing on an error from West Liberty.
Robbie McKinney would reach on an error and moved over to third after a walk and ground out, which set up the chance to score on a wild pitch.
However, the Senators would have another error in the third inning and then one in the fourth inning that helped fuel a three-run inning for the Hilltoppers followed by a run in the fourth, as they went up 5-1.
Hunter Thomas would cut into the deficit with an RBI groundout in the bottom of the fourth, scoring
Johnny Liu.
Corey Mays would then have an RBI base hit to left field, scoring
Michael Wood later in the inning.
In the fifth inning, Wood tied the game up at five with a single to left field that scored McKinney and Liu.

However, with the game still tied in the ninth, the Hilltoppers capitalized on a pair of walks from
Tyler Mason and were able to plate the go ahead run, giving the visitors the eventual win.
The Senators will wrap up their season this weekend with a four-game series against Cedarville at Harpetown Field.
Friday and Saturday's doubleheaders are scheduled for 12 p.m. starts.
