CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Davis & Elkins College split with Trevecca Nazarene on Monday to wrap up the Great Midwest Athletic Conference series in Charleston, W.Va., winning 8-5 before falling 8-6.
Trevecca Nazarene jumped out to an early lead in game one, as the Trojans started off with a leadoff homerun to begin the game.
The Senators would answer back right away, as
Johnny Liu led off the inning with a double to left center and then stole third base. Two batters later, Liu would score on a groundout to the right side by
Robbie McKinney.
However, the Trojans would answer back in the top of the second, scoring a pair of runs to take a 3-1 lead. Trevecca would then add another run in the fourth.
Liu would score again for the Senators in the third. After being hit by a pitch, he moved to third on a single by
Tanner Ray and then scored on an attempted first-and-third double steal that Ray was run down on.
After Trevecca scored in the fourth to go up 5-2, the Senators offense came alive.
Bragg Eastin had an RBI single for the Senators only run in the fourth, scoring
Cody Gwinn.
In the fifth, McKinney had an RBI triple down the right line, scoring
Tanner Ray. McKinney then scored on a single by Mike Wood to tie the game at 5.
With the bases loaded in the sixth inning, McKinney doubled to right center, clearing the bases as
Hunter Thomas, Eastin and Liu scored to put the Senators up.
Arman Lakhani pitched the final four innings for the Senators, earning the win with just three hits and one run allowed.
In game two, the Senators fell behind in the third inning, as Trevecca started the scoring with a two-run homerun.
The Senators scored in the bottom of the third on a groundout RBI by Liu, plating a run from Thomas.
Davis & Elkins then scored two runs in the fourth inning with an RBI single from Thomas to score McKinney and a sacrifice fly from Eastin to score
Garrett Dorton, giving the Senators a 3-2 lead.
The Senators extended the lead in the sixth inning with another run from a sacrifice fly, this time off the bat of
Steven White, scoring Thomas again.
However, the Trojans would use a pair of homeruns to score five runs in the seventh inning and take a 7-4 lead.
Davis & Elkins would score a run in the seventh and both teams scored in the eighth, with Trevecca holding the two-run advantage for the remainder of the game.
Cody Luker, who gave up the two homeruns in the seventh inning, picked up the loss in the decision.
The Senators will return to action on Friday as they travel to Kentucky Wesleyan for a four-game series. Day one's doubleheader begins at 12 p.m. in Owensboro, Ky.
