Senators Take Series Split At California PA

WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Davis & Elkins College Baseball team earned another split against California University of Pennsylvania on Sunday, falling 4-1 before a late rally in game two to pick up a 5-2 victory.

Trailing 1-0 in the fifth inning of game two, the Senators tied the game up with a RBI single by Ryan Ray to score Cody Gwinn. However, California would answer back with a solo homerun in the bottom of the inning.

The Senators would answer back in the sixth inning with Garrett Dorton's single to left field that brought home Johnny Liu, tying the game at 2.

In the seventh inning, it would be Liu who would break the tie, hitting a double down the left field line that brought home Robbie McKinney and Manuel Santamaria.

Davis & Elkins would add one more insurance run with Dorton's second RBI of the game, a single to right center that brought home Liu.

Derek Sicca closed out the game in the seventh, earning a complete game victory. Sicca had three strikeouts, giving up two runs on six hits.

In game one, the Senators fell behind in the second inning as the Vulcans hit a two-run homerun to start the scoring.

California would add two more runs in the third inning, proving to be more than enough runs for the victory.

The Senators would get on the scoreboard with a RBI groundout by McKinney that scored Tanner Ray in the fifth.

Noah Jarboe was dealt the loss, giving up all four runs, three earned, in three innings of work. Brent McMillion pitched the other three innings, allowing just two hits and a walk.

The Senators will have the week off before returning to action on Saturday. The Senators are scheduled to play Hillsdale in a pair of doubleheaders next weekend at Harpertown Field. The games are scheduled for 12 p.m. first pitches both days.
