Baseball Falls In Pair Of Games Against Hillsdale

GLENVILLE, W.Va. – The Davis & Elkins College Baseball team dropped the opening two games of a 4-game series against Hillsdale College on Sunday.

The Senators dropped the opener 6-0 and fell 4-1 in the second game of the doubleheader.

Both teams played a scoreless first four innings in the opener, as the teams struggled to get that bats going in the cold weather.

Hillsdale broke onto the scoreboard in a big way in the fifth, plating four runs on three hits. However, the Senators aided the effort for Hillsdale with a pair of runs being scored on wild pitches as well as a walk and a hit by pitch.

The visitors would add another run in the seventh and an unearned run in the ninth.

Davis & Elkins would be limited to five hits in the contest, with three coming in the eighth. The Senators had a chance to cut into the Hillsdale lead with the bases loaded and one out, but a double play ended the inning.

In game two, Hillsdale jumped out to a lead with three runs in the third inning.

The Senators answered back with their only run of the day in the bottom half of the inning. With two runners on, Johnny Liu had an RBI base hit on a single up the middle to score Ryan Ray.

The Senators were unable to add any more runs in the game, being held to three hits.

Davis & Elkins will look to return to winning ways on Monday with the final two games of the series. The games are set for a 12 p.m. start in Glenville.
