GLENVILLE, W.Va. – The Davis & Elkins College Baseball team dropped both games to Hillsdale College on Monday to close out the four-game series.
The Senators were in tight contest in both game, but say a late surge from the Chargers in game one to fall 12-4, before another late inning push set the Senators back 5-2 in game two.
In game one, the Senators went down 5-0 through the top of the third inning, as the Chargers scored one in each of the first two innings before scoring three in the third.
The Senators answered back with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third.
Manuel Santamaria brought home the first run with a founder's choice grounder that scored
Tanner Ray.
Michael Wood then had a sacrifice fly to score
Ryan Ray later in the third inning.
In the fourth inning,
Tanner Ray had a sacrifice fly pop out to second base in shallow right field.
Dominic Bianchini scored on the play with heads up base running.
The Senators cut the lead to 5-4 in the fifth inning, as
Johnny Liu scored on
Garrett Dorton's ground out.
However, the Senators were unable to get any closer as Hillsdale added two runs in the sixth and five more in the seventh.
In game two, the Senators fell behind in the top of the third with a run from Hillsdale. However, the Senators took the lead in the bottom half of the inning on Liu's 2-RBI double down the left field line that scored
Robbie McKinney and
Steven White.
The Senators would hold the lead until the fifth inning when the Chargers regained the advantage with a 2-run inning.
Hillsdale would add two more insurance runs in the seventh inning to go ahead 5-2.
Davis & Elkins will look to return to winning ways on Wednesday, as the Senators travel to Concord for a single game. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. in Athens, West Virginia.
