Baseball splits with Alderson Broaddus to Open G-MAC Play

PHILIPPI, W.Va. – The Davis & Elkins College Baseball team split with Alderson Broaddus on the open day of Great Midwest Athletic Conference play, winning 10-4, before losing 15-0.
 
The Senators grabbed an early lead when Robbie McKinney's ball in play allowed Johnny Liu to score.
 
McKinney would extend the Senators lead with an RBI single to left center, scoring Steven White in the third inning.
 
In the fifth inning, McKinney would again extend the lead with another RBI single to start a six-run inning for the Senators. Tanner Ray scored on McKinney's second of three hits in the game to make it 3-0 D&E.
 
Michael Wood added to the lead with one of two hits on the day, scoring Hunter Thomas on his single to left. Garrett Dorton, Cody Gwinn and Derek Sicca would also have RBI base hits in the inning, as Davis & Elkins went up 8-0.
 
After Alderson Broaddus scored four runs in the sixth inning, McKinney would reach on a fielder's choice in the eighth as White would score for the second time in the game to put the Senators up 9-4.
 
In the ninth inning, White would have an RBI hit to score Ryan Ray and cap the scoring in game one.
 
Austin Main tossed 5 innings, allowing all four runs while striking out three to earn the win.
 
Noah Jarboe tossed four innings, retiring all 12 batters, including two strikeouts, to earn a save.
 
In game two, the Battlers jumped out to a 10-0 lead with a pair of five-run innings in the first and second.
 
They would go on to add one in the third and four more in the fifth.
 
The Senators would struggle at the plate, recording just five hits. Tanner Ray led the way, going 2-for-3 in the game. Wood, Dorton and Gwinn had the other hits for the Senators.
 
Davis & Elkins will return to action on Sunday, wrapping up the series with Alderson Broaddus. The games are set for an 11 a.m. start with the second game to follow.
