WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Davis & Elkins College Baseball team earned a split in a pair of 6-5 games on Saturday against California PA.
In games that were originally scheduled for Elkins, but moved to the turf facility at the home of the Vulcans, Davis & Elkins batted as the home team and the Senators were able to walk off in game two with a
Dominic Bianchini RBI single to secure a 6-5 win.
The Senators struggled at the plate early on, finding themselves in a 2-0 deficit heading to their final six outs. The Senators started a 4-run inning with
Johnny Liu's RBI single to right, scoring
Steven White.
Michael Wood followed up Liu with a double down the left field line, scoring
Robbie McKinney.
After Bianchini walked to load the bases,
Frank Masella also walked, bringing home Liu, giving the Senators the lead.
Johnny Renzelli followed it up with a sacrifice fly to give the Senators a 4-2 lead heading to the seventh.
However, the Vulcans answered back with three runs in the seventh inning, taking a 5-4 lead.
With two outs, Liu started the rally with an infield single. Wood then followed it up with a double to left center, scoring Liu to tie the game. After Dorton was walked, Bianchini singled through the left side to score Wood.
Austin Main pitched six innings, allowing two runs while striking out six.
Forrest Williamson picked up a blown save, but received the win with his inning pitched, giving up three runs, while striking out two.
In game one, the Senators again fell behind 2-0 as the Vulcans score a run in the first and another in the second.
Davis & Elkins then scored two in the third to tie the game before adding two more in the fourth. Dorton had a RBI double to left center, scoring McKinney for the first run of the third.
Cody Gwinn then had a sacrifice fly to score Wood.
In the fourth, Wood hit a two RBI single up the middle with the bases loaded, scoring McKinney and White.
California answered back with a pair of runs in the fifth and two more in the sixth to go back up by two.
Liu would hit an RBI single in the sixth to score
Tanner Ray, but the Senators would strand the tying run at third in the sixth and at second in the seventh, dropping the game.
Tyler Honeycutt pitched 4.2 innings, allowing four runs while striking out five in a no decision.
