GLENVILLE, W.Va. – The Davis & Elkins College Baseball team fell to Glenville State 3-2 on Wednesday in a midweek non-conference battle with the in-state foe.
The Senators took the lead in the top of the first inning with
Hunter Thomas' solo homerun.
The Senators held the lead into the fourth inning, when the hosts scored a pair of runs, one coming from an error to take a 2-1 lead.
The Pioneers doubled their lead in the sixth inning to go ahead 3-1, but the Senators responded in the seventh inning to cut the deficit back.
Nick Dellavalle reached on a fielder's choice to the left side and
Cody Gwinn scored from third to make it 3-2.
The Senators would threaten in the ninth, getting the tying run into scoring position, but the Senators were unable to find a third run.
Seven pitchers featured in the game for the Senators, with
Tyler Mason picking up the loss, despite not giving up a hit. Both base runners he allowed via walks scored in the fourth inning.
The Senators pitching staff allowed just two hits, but walked eight batters while striking out nine.
Davis & Elkins will return to action this weekend with a doubleheader against Salem International scheduled for Sunday April 2 at 1 p.m. in Salem, West Virginia.
